Volunteer Activities

Spatial Systems Associates encourages its employees to participate in volunteer activities in our local and global community. Volunteer activities in the past have included:

• Assisting Columbia Association with mapping initiatives
• Working with Habitat for Humanity in the construction of regional homes
• Providing mapping technology in support of international relief efforts following the Indonesian tsunami
• Participating in regional stream cleanup efforts sponsored by the Maryland Department of Natural Resources annually
• Support of a neighborhood mapping initiative for the City of Baltimore, Maryland
• Working on local community farm projects to supply locally produced food to regional families
• Providing mapping and graphics support to local churches
• Participation in adopt-a-road cleanup activities in the region
• Travel to Haiti and support of school building, water testing and water infrastructure design, medical missionary work, and providing solar-based electrical systems
• Working with non-profit organizations utilizing our mapping resources and skills

We recognize that Spatial Systems and its employees have somewhat unique skills and the ability to provide cartographic and internet-based support that would be difficult to obtain elsewhere without significant cost. We believe that encouraging staff to use these resources on their time to support the broader community is part of our responsibility. When appropriate, Spatial Systems allows the use of its computer and software resources in support of these worthwhile activities, and encourages employees to get involved.
