County of Isle of Wight, VA
DESCRIPTION
Spatial Systems conducted a needs analysis and cost benefit study for Isle of Wight County (IOW) in 1999. Based on our recommendation, IOW decided to acquire comprehensive digital orthophotograhy and planimetric data in support of their new GIS efforts. The county selected SSA to provide GIS implementation services starting in early 2000.
The project included:
- Acquisition of digital orthophotography
- Design of databases for the various GIS layers that were to be developed
- Development of planimetric features (roads and building polygons)
- Development of a new cadastral layer
- Creation of a 911 address database and addressing standard for the county
- Design, development and hosting of a GIS website to allow county staff to share the data and to make it available to the local citizens
SSA proceeded to convert water, sewer and stormwater utility infrastructure for the county, including scanning of available as-built drawings, registration, vectorization and attribution of the resulting elements with relevant data. SSA has been providing GIS services to the county on an as-needed basis ever since.
